Triana y Luca: A Celebration of Folklore & Song
An acoustic duo blending the heartfelt traditions of Latin American and Iberian folklore. Though the project has come to an end, the music remains—a testament to the stories we told and the songs we shared.
About us
Transmitting a sincere and intimate sound, Triana y Luca are two curious artists exploring their diasporic roots through music. Intertwining Ibero-American folklores with contemporary influences, their melodies oscillate between popular music, improvisation, and poetry. Their project proposes a journey full of visual and poetic stimuli, inspired by cultural traditions, creative freedom, religious syncretism in art, nature, poetry and mysticism.
Blooming from the artists’ eclectic backgrounds; their compositions tell personal stories enriched with memories of their multi-generational migrant families. Luca was born in Luxembourg to a Polish-Canadian father and a Spanish mother. Triana was born in Canada to a Mexican-Spanish family. Searching to reconnect with their roots, with lost lullabies, and “cantes de ida y vuelta”, was what brought them together; and what they today redefine in a common project with a uniquely intimate eclectic sound.
Their own compositions draw on popular sources such as rancheras, boleros, joropos, chacareras, fados and flamenco, to which Triana y Luca incorporate their contemporary perspective. In 2023 the duo released their debut EP, titled “Fragmentos del Olvido”. A collection of moments, memories, and dreams, each song its own poetically narrated story. With this EP, Triana y Luca offer the sincere and powerful sound of a repertoire that is comfortable in improvisation and spontaneity, weaving features and notes inspired by contemporary artists of reference for the duo, such as: Silvana Estrada, Natalia Lafourcade or Daniel You me estas matando and teachers of Latin American song such as Chavela Vargas, Mercedes Sosa, Soledad Bravo or Simon Díaz.
